Best Time to Get Pregnant?
When is the best time to get pregnant you ask, well every woman is different . When can you start? There are plenty of women who get pregnant within 6 weeks to 6 months after having their first child. I was pregnant within 8 weeks on my first and everything was fine. Physically it’s fine to conceive soon after birth (wait about 6 weeks). I wouldn’t make a habit out of it multiple pregnancies, that may cause problems. Two or three should be fine. But emotionally, that’s a different story. It’s hard having to care for an infant while pregnant and having a toddler and an infant on your hands will take patience, care, and diligent time management.

This is the deal…you can ONLY conceive when there is an opening in the cervix and that is the best time to get pregnant. This will occur for a 24 hour window once per month. This “window of opportunity” will usually began 11-14 days after the first day of your menstrual cycle. This is the time to go for it. Have sex every day during this period because you don’t know exactly when that window will be available. Due to this, nature has a fail safe, sperm will pool around the cervix for 72 hours patiently waiting for a chance to slip in and presto a baby. After 72 hours the sperm will die.
When you are fertile, within a typical menstrual cycle (28 days on average, first day of true menstrual bleeding is day 1) the day of ovulation would be around day 12-16, typically on day 14, however it can vary from woman to woman, the only way of knowing for sure would be by using tracking methods such as Fertility Awareness Method [FAM], Natural Family Planning [NFP], Billings Ovulation Method or less in depth methods such as ovulation tests from pharmacy, CycleBeads, Persona or Ladycomp/Babycomp.
[FAM and NFP are around 97% effective as birth control with perfect use – not to be confused with rhythm method, which is not very effective at all]
Women are typically fertile for around 30% of their cycle, this is the day of ovulation (12-16) and the days prior when fertile quality cervical mucus is produced – mucus is essential to conception as this keeps the sperm alive within the acidic environment of the vagina and gives sperm a means by which they can reach the egg at ovulation (sperm can live up to 5 days within fertile quality cervical mucus).
Traditionally, the best time to get pregnant, women used morning temperature check or Basal Body Temperature charts to monitor ovulation when trying to get pregnant. In theory, the temperature should be at its lowest just before ovulation and rise (at least 0.6 degrees F) as the ovary increases progesterone production. However, many experts feel that this method is the least accurate means to enhance fertility. In fact, the low temperature point may occur 6 days before ovulation but also 4 days after when the chance of pregnancy is nil. Urine testing has been the mainstay of ovulation testing for many years. Most kits and/or computers test for LH or estrogen in the urine to predict fertility. They accurately predict ovulation for many women but the advance notice may be limited to a day or less. In addition, many women complain about using the pee sticks and that they are hard to interpret. Recent studies also suggest that up to one third of women may miss their ovulation when using urine kits. New methods of ovulation prediction, including OV-Watch, analyzes hormone induced fluctuation in sodium chloride to accurately predict ovulation much sooner than traditional testing Finally, many fertility specialists rely on frequent ultrasound monitoring in conjunction with testing of hormone levels (estradiol, progesterone) to predict ovulation and confirm it has occurred but this testing can be very expensive or time consuming.
